Scars are the marks of the skin attempt to recover from a trauma caused to the body through injury or accident, or as part of a disease or a surgical procedure. It is important, therefore, while treating a scar, to understand its origin, as this will give it its form and degree.
The scars caused by accidents or by surgery are unpredictable. The way a scar develops depends on several factors: how you heal, the kind of injury, depth, size and direction of it, the blood supply to the affected area, thickness and color of skin, and the surgeon’s skills. The most important is how you feel about the appearance of the scar.
There are also hereditary factors and characteristics of the skin, such as coloring, which determine the recovery rate of the skin or scar formation. While no scar can be removed completely, plastic surgeons can improve their appearance by making it less obvious. For this, they can use certain steroid medications or special surgical procedures.
